My King of Flowers

Another wonderful story from Anne! Following the story and relationship of Yinuo and Dehai was beautiful and I loved it. Like her other book I've read, Anne's women characters battle with the rules and traditions of their lives and don't let that stop them, giving them a modern feel despite the fact they are based in a society from hundreds of years ago. I loved how Dehai was mysterious and slowly we learned how and why she fell in love with him as the timeline goes from the past to the present.

I did wish the novel was longer because I felt that the relationship moved quickly, but for a novel I think the pacing was great. I personally am just more of a novel person and that is subjective.

However seeing their fall in love was beautiful and I think it was a natural feeling relationship. The scene of them in the garden playing around or their passing glances were natural and reminded me of how young the two of them were and their clear first love. My favorite was after their kiss and argued about the consequences of it and how Dehai could get in trouble for it by Yinuo and Yinuo yelled that she initiated the kiss and Dehai yelled back that he reciprocated showing how he was willing to face any consequences for the kiss. The scene is better than my description of it, I promise.

Overall I think this was a really good novella and if you are looking for a nice historical romance novella this is one I recommend.
